Original title: Croisière pour un cadavre
A French detective, inspector Raoul Dusentier of the Paris police, is invited by a rich businessman Niklos Karaboudjan to take a cruise aboard his ship. Soon after leaving the port Karaboudjan is found dead, clearly murdered, and it is up to Dusentier to find the killer among the passengers and crew.
Cruise for a Corpse (developed by French company Delphine Software) is a quintessence of point-and-click adventure game - the whole ship is split into separate screens on which the main character can move around and find evidence. By today standards representing each location by just one screen might seem uncomfortable, but in early 1990s it was a standard of game development. The characters are clearly stand out from the backgrounds, which also was typical for games of the era, and the gameplay was... let’s say a bit boring.
Today Cruise for a Corpse could hardly compete with modern titles of the genre, but back in early 1990s games were different due to hardware limitations and this title was just like other similar productions. Nevertheless it is an icon of the genre and a bit of history.
